The only beef that I've ever had with Ducati is the cost of parts. I don't think they'll ever rival the Japanese in terms of reliability, but they are built so much better now than they ever have been. Having said that, I just put pistons in a Monster 620 and each piston was $999, and each ring set was $150.Love the look of Ducati, and seat height is excellent (I’m short), MT-07 was a little more uncomfortable to reach the ground. MT-07 has less miles and 2 years newer than the Ducati. Otherwise the price is about the same. Cost aside, which bike is relatively more appropriate for new rider? Looking to do in-town commute and occasionally highway ... I've been quoted some high prices for insurance for a 2020 Ducati Monster 797. Just wanted to check if this is typical for this kind of motorcycle: Geico: ~$4000/year. Progressive: ~$8000/year. Allstate: ~$2500/year for the premium tier.

Ducati reliability improved greatly after the Audi/VW purchase. As BeNice said, it isn't Honda reliability if that is what you are looking for in a bike. Side note: starting on a small bike isn't just about rider maturity. New riders make mistakes and HP compounds mistakes.
